gear oil change , transfer case, 98 disco.

The parts store recommended red line 75-250 crush proof. Does that sound right? Also, where is the fill plug located. Is it the usual bung with a1/2 inch hole for a breaker bar, like the diffs?

GL-5 85-90 is what I used, any brand. Transfer fill is behind the brake drum to left by cable. Diffs fill is upper and drains are low as I see you have seen. I buy the GL5 fluid in 5 gal buckets and do transfer case, diffs and hubs at same time. They have a grease for hubs, but I never used it even though I had some on shelf. I used a 3/8s rachet with 1/2' adapter on transfer case.

Always take the fill plug out first. Nothing like draining the oil only to find out you can't get the fill plug out!

Very good advice. I always do filler plug first, just to see if there was fluid left in it.
