    Reputation of these things.............?

I have heard many stories about how Godawful these things were. Supposedly the got better after 2010. I see them all over the place in Spain. Granted, being a SEAT powertrain, they are probably cheap there, plus they get a Diesel version.

I se them advertised for sale regularly, very, very cheap. Most with a blown motor. My bud has a shop in the area, and he happened to be working on one....some crazy sh**t about in order to replace the alternator or some baloney, half the bottom has top be torn up ? WTF..

I saw a G-4 Freelander about two months ago for $1800. I bet someone snatched that up in a day. I called four hours later and it was sold.. more than likely because it was a G-4 Edition ( orange, bumpers and all ).

They look ok, like sort of a cross between a Honda CRV and a Peugeot 308.

What is the general consensus on Freelanders among members of the forum...........?

Sorry, I don't see what car are you talking about, the freelander?
And if is Seat doesn't have to be bad, they use VW tech anyway, ...

    Yes, the Freelander.

It was my understanding that the Freelander was a re-badged SEAT. As you already know, they're all over Spain, both the actual Freelanders and the SEAT badged versions. I don't know them to pass an opinion, hence my asking.

What intrigued me was that 2004 G-4 version that I saw for $1800. That one had to be worth something.
I've come across them regularly and been offered one or two as partial trade on my Discoveries. I have never personally owned one, but the few people that had told me they were a major POS.
Then again, the same was said about Discoveries......but I love mine.

AFAIK, the Freelander has nothing from the VAG group, and Seat doesn't really have any 4x4 worth considering.

Never owned one, a couple of friends owned the diesel back home, and they are very happy with them, they have some issues (go, figure) like any LR, but nothing major, just enough to keep you entertained
And offroad they get scared before the little truck gives up!
I have no feedback from the gas engine, but I am interested as a possibility for my daughter one day...

I was thinking the same.........I heard some horror stories..but how bad can they be? There are a couple of running ones currently on CL for around $2500, for an 03' and an 04' model.

I should have grabbed that 04' G-4 that came up for sale for $1800. Sold the same day I saw it..

At one time they had gas engine problems and Ford had no replacement engines. TATA now has a whole new engine for replacement and seems they are pretty indestructible. The Freelander makes a good Rallye Racer with a few safety upgrades.
