LR Trek - Ludwig Ghost Town - 06-19-2009

The good weather is finally returning to the area so today I wanted to take a short trip to check out Ludwig ghost town/mining camp northeast of Smith Valley, Nevada. Instead of taking the highway to visit this site, I decided to hit the dirt backroads. I started at brunswick canyon in Carson City, headed south till I reached sunrise pass, and headed east over the pine nut mountains. 90% of the roads were graded services roads so nothing too extreme, but due to the daily thunderstorms we have been having the last 3 weeks, a lot of the rocks and debris from the mountains washed down onto the roads and some of the side roads added some challenges. It was a short trip miles wise, but spent alot of time exploring some mines along the way. Also had an encounter with a Great Basin Rattle Snake that decided to crawl towards my rover to get warmed up. Def will head back but bring some more people with me as there were quite a few horizontal mines that can be explored safely, and it's best to have some people along for emergencies. A lot of fun and no flat tires

Sorry for the lack of action shots as I was rollin solo this trip....

Outstanding! Gorgeous country, my truck is almost ready to go, an I have an excuse to head up that way.

I will actually be up in Carson City sometime this weekend, as we are shooting some interviews for the film we are working on, and Carson is one of the possible locations, depending on weather. No time for fun, other than the actual shoot itself.

What a beautiful area. I love to tour the old mines. I am a nut for history and walking in the same footsteps of those who came long ago. One reason I love living right by the Oregon Trail.

    Great photos, minus the snake......
